Summer is here—long days, ice cream runs, and the noble tradition of trying to keep your kids from turning into screen zombies. But what if we took some of that sunny energy and used it to serve others?
Yes, even with kids in tow, and yes, even if your idea of “outreach” usually involves waving at neighbors from the driveway in your pajama pants.
Outreach doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, small acts of kindness can have a big Kingdom impact!
Here are a few fun, family-friendly ideas:
- 🎨 Make cheerful cards for a local nursing home
- 🍪 Host a “Lemonade & Kindness” stand—give away drinks and smiles!
- 🧹 Clean up a local park (trash pickers = instant superhero status)
- 📦 Create care packages for your mail carrier, delivery drivers, or firefighters
- 🍓 Share garden veggies or baked goods with neighbors (bonus: less zucchini in your fridge)
Jesus said in Mark 10:45, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” Serving as a family shows our kids that faith isn’t just what we believe—it’s what we do.
Even better? It can be fun. Add music, snacks, or goofy team names. Call it a “Love Your Neighbor Adventure.” Because when kids enjoy serving, they’ll want to do it again.
And remember Galatians 5:13: “Serve one another humbly in love.” Even if that love involves glitter, glue sticks, and someone eating half the cookies meant for the firehouse.
This summer, let’s get a little creative, a little messy, and a whole lot joyful—because sharing God’s love never goes out of season.
